Agrothrin Thrip Dust 100g is a ready-to-use pyrethrin-based dusting powder for controlling troublesome crawling and growing-media pests, including thrip larvae, fungus gnats, fungus gnat larvae, root aphids and springtails.
Rather than being mixed with water and applied as a conventional spray, Agrothrin is applied as a fine dry dust. It is particularly useful across the surface of growing media, where it creates a treated layer in an area frequently occupied by soil and substrate-associated pest stages.
The formulation harnesses the insecticidal properties of pyrethrins, naturally occurring compounds associated with chrysanthemum flowers. Its dry application method also makes Agrothrin a useful alternative where growers want to target the surface of pots, containers and propagation media without preparing another liquid treatment.
Agrothrin is best incorporated into a wider pest-management programme alongside regular crop inspection, sticky-trap monitoring, good hygiene and appropriate biological or other control methods where required.
Thrips are commonly noticed when adults and larvae begin feeding on leaves and flowers, but parts of their lifecycle can also take place away from the visible canopy.
Treating the surface of the growing medium with an appropriate dusting product provides a different approach from relying entirely on foliar treatments. Agrothrin is particularly associated with the control of thrip larvae and can therefore be incorporated into a broader programme designed to tackle the pest at multiple stages.
Where thrips are established, combine treatment with regular crop inspection and sticky-trap monitoring so that changes in the adult flying population can also be observed.
Fungus gnats are strongly associated with moist growing media. The small flying adults are easy to notice, but the larval stage develops within the substrate and can therefore be missed during routine crop inspection.
Agrothrin's dust format makes it particularly suited to treatment of the growing-media surface. This can be combined with yellow sticky traps for monitoring adult fungus gnats and with appropriate irrigation management to avoid unnecessarily wet conditions that favour persistent populations.
One of Agrothrin's main advantages is its application method. Instead of diluting a concentrate into a sprayer, the powder can be applied directly where treatment is required.
This is especially useful around the top of pots and containers, where fungus gnats, thrip stages, springtails and other substrate-associated pests may be active.
A dry dust also behaves differently from a liquid treatment. It remains as a physical layer on the treated surface until it is disturbed, wetted or otherwise removed, making it useful for targeted growing-media applications.
Persistent pest problems are normally easier to control when several complementary measures are used rather than relying on a single treatment.
Sticky traps can help monitor adult flying insects, while careful crop inspection identifies feeding damage and pest hotspots. Good hygiene, removal of heavily affected plant material, appropriate irrigation practices and biological controls may also have a role depending on the pest and production system.
Using Agrothrin to target appropriate pest stages around the growing medium can therefore form one component of a wider Integrated Pest Management strategy.
Agrothrin is supplied as a ready-to-use dusting powder and does not require dilution with water.
For growing-media applications, apply the product in accordance with the directions on the current product label, concentrating treatment where the target pests are active. Avoid unnecessarily disturbing the treated surface after application.
Watering, physical disturbance and other growing operations can affect a surface-applied dust, so continue monitoring pest activity after treatment.
Always read and follow the current product label before use. The label instructions take priority over general application guidance.
Continue inspecting plants and growing media after Agrothrin has been applied. The objective is not simply to treat the crop, but to establish whether pest pressure is actually declining.
Yellow sticky traps are particularly useful alongside Agrothrin when dealing with thrips and fungus gnats because they provide a visible indication of adult flying-insect activity.
If pest numbers remain high, correctly identify the pest and review the complete control programme rather than repeatedly applying products without addressing the underlying infestation.

Yes. Agrothrin is particularly associated with controlling thrip larvae. Established thrips can occupy different parts of a growing environment, so a wider pest-management programme may also be required.
No. Its defining feature is that it is a fine dusting powder rather than a liquid spray, allowing targeted treatment of growing-media surfaces.
Pyrethrins are naturally occurring insecticidal compounds originally derived from chrysanthemum flowers. They act on susceptible insects following exposure.

A dry dust can be placed directly across the substrate surface without mixing a spray solution. This makes it particularly useful when the target pest is active around pots, containers and growing media.
Watering and physical disturbance can alter or remove a surface-applied dust. Continue monitoring the crop and follow the current product-label instructions regarding application and any subsequent treatment.
A significant infestation is usually best approached through Integrated Pest Management. Correct pest identification, monitoring, hygiene, environmental management and appropriate biological or other controls may all be required.
