Shallow weed control

A Dutch hoe is useful for severing small weeds close to the soil surface before they become established. Work through the upper layer of prepared soil rather than cultivating deeply around crop roots.

Care & maintenance

Remove soil, sap and plant debris after use and allow the tool to dry before storage. Check the working head or blade, handle, fasteners and joints for wear, looseness or damage.

Stainless steel is corrosion resistant, but it still benefits from being cleaned and dried rather than stored covered in wet soil or sap.

Keep the ashwood handle dry and inspect it periodically for splits, rough areas or looseness. Avoid leaving wooden-handled tools exposed outdoors for long periods.

Choosing the right tool for the job

This product is intended for shallow hoeing and weed control between plants and across prepared beds. Where the material, soil condition or branch size makes the job difficult, switch to a more appropriate tool rather than applying excessive leverage or force.

Using the correct tool generally gives better results and reduces wear on both the equipment and the operator.
