The 5m IEC Extension Cable provides an additional five metres of reach between compatible IEC power connections, using a C14 male plug at one end and a C13 female connector at the other.

Designed to extend an existing IEC power connection, the cable is useful where compatible lighting equipment, ballasts, controllers or other electrical devices need to be positioned further away from their existing power lead or IEC power source.

The IEC C14 male to C13 female configuration uses the familiar IEC connection found across a wide range of electrical equipment. Rather than terminating in a UK wall plug, this cable connects between compatible IEC connections to extend the existing power run.

With a generous 5 metre length, it provides considerably greater installation flexibility where equipment layout makes a standard power lead too short.

Why choose the 5m IEC Extension Cable?

  • 5 metre extension - adds substantial reach to a compatible IEC power connection.
  • IEC C14 male connector - connects to a compatible IEC C13 power source or lead.
  • IEC C13 female connector - connects to equipment fitted with a compatible IEC C14 inlet.
  • Male-to-female configuration - designed specifically for extending an existing IEC power connection.
  • Black cable - practical for lighting and equipment installations.
  • Useful for compatible lighting equipment - provides additional cable length where equipment needs to be positioned further from its power connection.
  • Widely used IEC format - C13/C14 connections are found across a broad range of electrical and electronic equipment.
  • Flexible equipment positioning - useful when the supplied power cable does not provide sufficient reach.

IEC C14 male to C13 female connection

This extension lead uses an IEC C14 male plug at the supply end and an IEC C13 female connector at the equipment end.

The C13 female connector is designed to mate with the IEC C14 inlet commonly found on electrical equipment. The C14 male end can then connect to a compatible IEC C13 socket or the C13 connector of an existing power lead.

This arrangement effectively inserts an additional five metres between two compatible IEC connections.

Always check the connectors on your existing lead and equipment before ordering. IEC connectors are available in several different formats, so physical compatibility should be confirmed rather than relying solely on terms such as "kettle lead".

Ideal for extending compatible equipment power cables

IEC extension leads are useful where electrical equipment needs to be repositioned without relocating the original mains outlet or replacing the complete power cable.

In lighting and controlled-environment installations, the additional cable length can be particularly useful when arranging compatible ballasts, controllers and other electrical equipment around the available space.

IEC C13/C14 connections are also widely used on computers, monitors, power supplies, UPS systems, power distribution equipment and many other electrical devices.

Compatibility and electrical suitability should always be checked for the specific equipment being connected.

5 metres of additional cable reach

The 5m length gives considerably more freedom when positioning compatible electrical equipment.

This can help where equipment needs to be installed above, below or some distance away from its existing power connection, while also reducing the temptation to place unnecessary tension on shorter cables.

Route the cable carefully and avoid sharp bends, crushing, excessive tension and contact with sharp edges. Excess cable should be managed neatly without placing strain on either IEC connector.

IEC extension cable vs UK kettle lead

Although both products use the familiar IEC C13 connector, an IEC extension cable performs a different job from a standard UK mains-to-IEC power lead.

A conventional UK IEC power lead has a UK 3-pin mains plug at one end and an IEC C13 connector at the other.

This extension cable instead has an IEC C14 male plug and IEC C13 female connector. It is designed to extend an existing compatible IEC connection rather than plug directly into a standard UK wall socket.

Installation & electrical safety

  • Confirm that both IEC connector types are compatible before use.
  • Check that the cable is suitable for the electrical requirements of the connected equipment.
  • Do not use a cable with damaged insulation or damaged connectors.
  • Avoid crushing, sharply bending or placing excessive tension on the cable.
  • Keep electrical connections protected from water and excessive moisture.
  • Route the cable to minimise trip hazards and accidental disconnection.
  • Disconnect equipment safely before inspecting or changing power connections.
  • Do not modify the connectors to fit incompatible equipment.

5m IEC Extension Cable FAQs

How long is this IEC extension cable?

The cable is 5 metres long, providing substantial additional reach between compatible IEC connections.

What connectors does the cable use?

It uses an IEC C14 male plug at one end and an IEC C13 female connector at the other.

Is this a C13 to C14 extension lead?

Yes. It uses the standard C13/C14 IEC connection, with a C13 female equipment connector and C14 male plug.

Does this cable plug directly into a UK wall socket?

No. This is an IEC-to-IEC extension cable rather than a UK 3-pin mains lead. A compatible IEC power connection is required at the supply end.

Can it extend an existing kettle lead?

Yes, where the existing lead terminates in a compatible IEC C13 connector and the equipment uses an IEC C14 inlet.

Can this be used with a lighting ballast?

Yes, where the ballast uses the appropriate IEC C14 inlet and the extension cable is suitable for its electrical requirements.

What is the difference between IEC C13 and C14?

The C13 is the female connector commonly fitted to an IEC power cable, while the C14 is the corresponding male connection commonly fitted to equipment or an extension lead.

Why use an IEC extension cable?

It allows compatible electrical equipment to be positioned further from its existing power connection without replacing the complete power lead.

Can I connect this to the 2m or 5m UK IEC power leads?

It can extend a compatible IEC C13 power lead where the connectors and electrical requirements are suitable.

Is this the same as a standard UK power lead?

No. A standard UK IEC power lead has a UK 3-pin plug at the mains end. This product has an IEC C14 male connector and is specifically intended as an extension.

Can IEC C13/C14 cables be used with any electrical equipment?

No. The equipment must have compatible connectors and the cable must be suitable for its electrical requirements.

Should IEC connections be kept dry?

Yes. Electrical connections should be protected from water, irrigation spray and excessive moisture unless the complete installation is specifically designed and rated for those conditions.

How many 5m IEC extension cables are in an outer case?

The outer case quantity is 25 cables.
