The Krystal 10" Carbon Filter 250mm x 750mm is a high-capacity activated carbon air filter rated at 1750m³/h, using 100% RC412 Australian virgin activated carbon to remove unwanted odours from extracted air.
Designed for larger ventilation systems, this model combines a 250mm / 10" connection, 750mm filter body and 1750m³/h airflow rating. Its increased filter size provides the airflow capacity required for powerful extraction systems while maintaining effective contact between the extracted air and activated carbon.
Krystal uses 100% RC412 Australian virgin activated carbon within the filter. The highly porous carbon provides an enormous internal surface area onto which odour-causing gaseous compounds can adsorb as air passes through the carbon bed.
A lightweight aluminium housing makes the filter easier to support than unnecessarily heavy designs, while the open-area mesh allows air to enter across the cylindrical filter surface before passing through the activated carbon.
The quality and quantity of activated carbon are central to the performance of an odour-control filter. Krystal specifies 100% RC412 Australian virgin activated carbon for its carbon filter range.
Activated carbon is processed to create an extremely porous internal structure. Although the carbon itself occupies a relatively compact volume, those microscopic pores create a very large internal surface area.
As contaminated air passes through the carbon bed, suitable gaseous compounds adhere to this surface through a process known as adsorption. The treated air then continues through the extraction system.
Carbon filtration is therefore fundamentally different from a simple particulate filter. Its principal purpose in this application is removing unwanted odour compounds from the extracted airstream.
This 250mm x 750mm Krystal Carbon Filter is rated at 1750 cubic metres per hour, positioning it as a high-capacity option for larger ventilation systems.
The airflow rating of the filter and the performance of the extraction fan should be considered together. A carbon filter creates resistance, meaning a fan will not normally deliver its unrestricted maximum airflow once connected to the filter and ductwork.
Duct length, bends, silencers, reducers and other ventilation components add further resistance.
Equally, forcing substantially more air through a carbon filter than it is designed to handle can reduce contact time with the carbon bed. Correct fan and filter matching is therefore important for both ventilation and odour-control performance.
The filter has a nominal 250mm / 10" connection for integration with appropriately sized ventilation equipment.
Keeping the extraction system at 250mm wherever practical helps minimise unnecessary resistance. Immediately reducing a high-airflow system into substantially smaller ducting increases air velocity and static pressure and can reduce overall performance.
At 750mm long, this model provides greater carbon capacity and airflow capability than shorter 250mm filters while remaining more compact than the 1000mm and 1200mm versions available within the Krystal range.
A typical filtered extraction system draws environmental air through the outer surface of the carbon filter. The air passes through the activated carbon before travelling through the fan and into the exhaust ducting.
Connections between the filter, fan and ducting should be secure and reasonably airtight. Untreated air leaking into the system after the carbon filter can bypass filtration and reduce overall odour-control performance.
Fan diameter alone does not determine whether a fan and carbon filter are correctly matched. The airflow requirements of both components also need to be considered.
This Krystal filter is rated at 1750m³/h. The extraction fan should provide enough performance to achieve the required air exchange after resistance from the filter, ducting and other components has been taken into account.
Where a higher-capacity variable-speed fan is used, airflow can be adjusted to suit the filter and environmental requirement rather than continuously operating the fan at maximum output.
Correct sizing also helps prevent excessive air velocity through the carbon bed and can reduce unnecessary ventilation noise.
Activated carbon has a finite adsorption capacity. As the filter operates, odour compounds progressively occupy available adsorption sites within the carbon.
The useful life of the filter will vary according to the amount of air processed, contaminant concentration, operating hours and environmental conditions.
Keeping excessive dust away from the filter and maintaining suitable airflow can help preserve effective operation.
If unwanted odours begin passing through the extraction system despite correct airflow and secure connections, the activated carbon may be approaching the end of its effective service life and the filter should be considered for replacement.

The Krystal 250mm x 750mm Carbon Filter is rated at 1750m³/h.

The activated carbon provides a very large internal surface area onto which suitable gaseous odour compounds can adsorb as extracted air passes through the filter.
This filter has a nominal 250mm / 10" connection, so matching 250mm ducting and fittings should be used wherever practical.
Select a compatible fan according to the filter's 1750m³/h airflow rating, required environmental airflow and the resistance of the complete ventilation system.
Yes. The carbon bed creates resistance, so actual installed airflow will normally be lower than the fan's unrestricted maximum airflow rating.
Yes. A suitable variable-speed fan can be particularly useful because its airflow can be adjusted to match the filter and the actual ventilation requirement.
A common configuration draws air through the carbon filter before it reaches the fan. This treats the air before it enters the exhaust ductwork.
Reducers can be used where necessary, but reducing duct diameter increases resistance and air velocity. Keeping the system at 250mm wherever practical generally provides a more efficient airflow path.
A larger filter body provides additional filtration capacity and allows this model to support its 1750m³/h rated airflow while maintaining a substantial activated carbon bed.
The primary purpose of this filter is gaseous odour adsorption. Excessive dust should be kept away from the filter because accumulated particulate contamination can restrict airflow.
Service life varies with operating hours, airflow, contaminant concentration and environmental conditions, so there is no single replacement interval suitable for every installation.
If unwanted odours begin to pass through despite suitable airflow, secure connections and correct ventilation operation, the activated carbon may be approaching the end of its useful adsorption capacity.
Yes. The combination of a 250mm connection, 750mm filter body and 1750m³/h airflow rating makes this model suitable for larger controlled horticultural environments requiring high-capacity filtered extraction.
