The TrolMaster MBS-TH is the replacement 3-in-1 environmental sensor for the Hydro-X HCS-1, combining air temperature, relative humidity and day/night light detection in a single plug-and-play sensor.
The MBS-TH provides the Hydro-X controller with the environmental information it needs to manage compatible heating, cooling, humidification, dehumidification and other climate-control equipment.
Temperature and humidity are continuously measured and reported back to the Hydro-X, while the integrated photocell determines whether the growing area is in its light or dark period. The controller can then use these readings together with compatible TrolMaster Device Stations to automatically manage connected environmental equipment.
This product is supplied as a replacement or spare MBS-TH sensor. A 3-in-1 sensor is already included as standard with a new Hydro-X HCS-1 controller, making this unit ideal for replacing an existing sensor or keeping a spare available for an established installation.

Environmental control depends on accurate information about conditions within the crop area. The MBS-TH continuously supplies the Hydro-X with air-temperature and relative-humidity readings, allowing the controller to compare actual conditions against the settings configured by the user.
Compatible TrolMaster control modules can then switch or regulate connected environmental equipment according to those readings. Depending on the equipment and Device Stations installed, a Hydro-X system can be configured to manage heating, cooling, air conditioning, ventilation, humidification and dehumidification.
The MBS-TH therefore acts as one of the primary environmental feedback sensors within a Hydro-X installation.
Built-in day/night photocell
In addition to temperature and humidity, the MBS-TH incorporates a photocell that allows the Hydro-X to identify whether lights are on or off.
The photocell detects the presence of light rather than measuring light intensity. It is therefore used for day/night detection and should not be confused with a PAR or PPFD sensor.
For growers requiring actual photosynthetic light measurement, TrolMaster offers the separate MBS-PAR Full Spectrum Quantum Sensor.
Environmental control with Hydro-X
The MBS-TH itself is a monitoring sensor rather than a switching device. Environmental equipment is controlled through compatible TrolMaster Device Stations connected to the Hydro-X controller.
The controller receives temperature and humidity information from the MBS-TH, compares those readings with the configured environmental settings and then sends the appropriate control commands to the connected Device Stations.
This modular approach allows the Hydro-X system to be configured around the environmental equipment already being used rather than requiring a fixed collection of devices.
Sensor positioning & installation
Position the MBS-TH where it can provide a representative measurement of conditions within the growing environment. Avoid locations directly affected by heaters, air-conditioning outlets, humidifiers or other equipment that could produce an unrepresentative local reading.
The sensor connects to the Hydro-X SENSORS port through the supplied RJ12 cable and T-Splitter. Additional compatible Hydro-X sensors can be daisy-chained using further splitters and RJ12 cabling.
Keep the MBS-TH dry and clean. TrolMaster specifically advises against spraying foreign substances onto the sensor or allowing water or condensation to collect on it, as contamination or moisture can cause premature sensor failure.
Hydro-X compatibility
The MBS-TH is specifically designed as the 3-in-1 environmental sensor for the original TrolMaster Hydro-X HCS-1.
