Ecothrive Neutralise 5L is an ultra-concentrated water conditioner designed to rapidly neutralise chlorine and chloramine in tap water before irrigation or nutrient mixing. Based on concentrated Vitamin C, it provides a simple way to protect beneficial microorganisms and prepare treated mains water for use in living soil, organic growing, coco and hydroponic systems.
Chlorine and chloramine are routinely used by water suppliers to disinfect mains water. That is useful for drinking-water hygiene, but disinfectants are not necessarily desirable when growers are deliberately trying to maintain a thriving microbial population within living soil or a biologically active root zone.
Neutralise provides a quick solution. Rather than leaving water standing in the hope that chlorine will dissipate, simply add the required quantity of Neutralise to the water before adding nutrients or biological products.
The concentrated Vitamin C reacts with chlorine and chloramine, converting them into harmless chloride. Once treated, the water can be used immediately.
At only 1ml per 20 litres of water, the 5L format is extremely concentrated and can treat approximately 100,000 litres of water.
Chlorine is added to mains water because it is an effective disinfectant. Its purpose is to control microorganisms as water travels through the distribution network.
In a conventional mineral growing programme, low residual concentrations may not always present a significant concern. In living soil and biologically active systems, however, growers are deliberately cultivating microorganisms within the root zone.
Beneficial bacteria, fungi and other soil organisms contribute to decomposition, nutrient cycling and the conversion of organic materials into forms that plants can access.
Conditioning chlorinated tap water before irrigation removes an unnecessary source of antimicrobial activity from the growing system.
Allowing tap water to stand has traditionally been used as a simple way of reducing free chlorine. The problem is that modern water supplies can also contain chloramine.
Chloramine is considerably more persistent in water than free chlorine and does not disappear as readily simply by leaving a reservoir uncovered.
This means the familiar method of filling a tank and waiting overnight is not a reliable solution where chloramine is present.
Ecothrive Neutralise is specifically formulated to neutralise both chlorine and chloramine, giving growers a consistent treatment method regardless of which disinfectant is present in their mains water.
Ecothrive Neutralise uses concentrated Vitamin C as its active water-conditioning ingredient.
Vitamin C reacts rapidly with chlorine and chloramine, neutralising their disinfecting action and converting them into harmless chloride.
The process is fast, straightforward and requires only a very small quantity of concentrated product.
This makes Neutralise particularly convenient for growers who regularly prepare large volumes of irrigation water and do not want to depend on filtration systems or lengthy standing periods.
Living soil depends on a diverse community of microorganisms working around plant roots and throughout the growing medium.
These organisms help decompose organic materials, mineralise nutrients and maintain the biological nutrient cycling that makes living soil cultivation possible.
Using a disinfectant-containing water source works against this objective. Neutralise allows growers to condition their mains water before it reaches the soil, removing chlorine and chloramine before irrigation.
This is especially useful when using products containing beneficial bacteria, fungi, microbial inoculants, compost extracts or biologically active organic inputs.
Ecothrive Neutralise is highly concentrated. Use 1ml per 20 litres of tap water.
Add Neutralise directly to the water and mix thoroughly. The chlorine and chloramine are neutralised rapidly, so there is no requirement to leave the water standing before use.
When preparing a nutrient solution, treat the water with Neutralise first. Once the water has been conditioned, add your base nutrients, supplements and biological products as normal.
This sequence ensures that microbial products are not introduced until the disinfectants in the source water have been neutralised.
The standard application rate of 1ml per 20L is equivalent to 0.05ml/L.
This very low application rate makes the 5L size particularly economical for commercial horticulture, large living soil beds and growing facilities that prepare substantial volumes of irrigation water.
At the standard rate of 1ml per 20L, a single 5L container of Ecothrive Neutralise can treat approximately 100,000 litres of tap water.
To put that into practical terms, one 5L container provides approximately:
This makes the 5L pack particularly well suited to commercial growing facilities, nurseries and growers operating large irrigation reservoirs.
Although Neutralise is particularly relevant to living soil, it can be used wherever growers want to remove chlorine and chloramine from mains water before irrigation.
Helps protect the beneficial microorganisms responsible for decomposition and nutrient cycling within biologically active growing media.
Treat source water before adding coco base nutrients and supplements, particularly where microbial or biological additives form part of the feeding programme.
Can be used to condition mains water before preparing a hydroponic nutrient reservoir.
Useful where young plants, cuttings or seedlings are being irrigated with conditioned tap water or biological root-zone products.
Leaving tap water standing can reduce some free chlorine because chlorine can dissipate into the atmosphere over time.
This approach has two major drawbacks: it takes time, and it is much less effective against persistent chloramine.
Neutralise removes this uncertainty by treating both disinfectants directly. Water can be prepared as required rather than storing large quantities in advance simply to allow chlorine to dissipate.
For growers using large reservoirs or preparing fresh irrigation water regularly, this can make water management considerably simpler.

Yes. Neutralise can be used to condition chlorinated mains water before preparing a hydroponic nutrient reservoir.
No. Neutralise is designed specifically to deal with chlorine and chloramine. It is not a reverse-osmosis system and does not remove the dissolved calcium, magnesium and other minerals responsible for water hardness or background EC.
It can remove the need for filtration where the objective is specifically chlorine and chloramine neutralisation. It does not remove every dissolved mineral, contaminant or impurity that a specialist filtration system may target.
The 5L size is ideal for growers using large quantities of tap water. With approximately 100,000L of treatment capacity at the standard rate, it is particularly practical for commercial growing facilities, large reservoirs and extensive living soil systems.
