ORIcontrol - adults (Orius laevigatus) – Fast, Mobile Thrips Control for Protected Crops

When thrips start causing silver flecks and twisted growth, it’s often Orius that turns the tide. ORIcontrol is packed with Orius laevigatus – a sharp-eyed little predator that doesn’t wait for trouble to come to it. It roams through the crop, picking off thrips at every stage of their life, from wriggling larvae to full-grown adults. If it comes across aphids or spider mite youngsters along the way, they won’t get a free pass either.

Orius moves fast and isn’t shy. In warmer growing spaces or where pest numbers are already building, it reacts quickly and helps bring the pressure back under control without delay.

It’s a strong match for crops with heavy blooms, chunky leaves or fast canopy growth – things like strawberries, capsicum, cut flowers and bedding plants. If you’re already using Amblyseius swirskii or Neoseiulus cucumeris to cover the early thrips stages, Orius makes a great addition to tackle the adults those mites can’t reach.

Works best for:

• Active thrips pressure in crops where adult stages are dominant
• Dense or flowering crops where biological movement matters
• Mixed IPM programmes that need fast, mobile reinforcement
• Growers looking for a spray-free way to steady thrips outbreaks

How to apply:

Use 1–2 adults per square metre as a preventative rate, or up to 10 per m² where pest pressure is high. Release in cooler parts of the day – early morning or evening – and distribute evenly across the crop. Avoid spraying before or after release.
