PHYTOcontrol (Phytoseiulus persimilis) – The Red Mite That Fights Back

Noticed a few pale flecks on the leaves? Or maybe some fine, silky threads where they shouldn’t be? That’s often your first sign spider mites have found their way in. Left to it, they’ll multiply fast and start draining the life out of your crop before you’ve had time to blink.

What you’ll find in PHYTOcontrol is Phytoseiulus persimilis – a fiery little predator that doesn’t mess about. These red mites aren’t just quick on their feet – they’re specialists. They hunt down two-spotted spider mites wherever they hide, biting through eggs, nymphs, and adults alike.

Get them in early and they’ll get cracking straight away. You won’t need to do much – they spread through the crop on their own, and when spider mite numbers are high, they multiply just as fast.

They really come into their own in enclosed, slightly steamy setups like glasshouses or grow tunnels – places where spraying could cause more problems than it solves.

• Spider mite blow-ups in polytunnels, propagation rooms, or indoor setups
• Fragile crops where spraying isn’t a good idea – soft fruit, ornamentals, and the like

How to apply:

Start with 5 to 10 mites per square metre if you’re staying ahead of the game – or go heavier, up to 100 per m², when the mites have already made themselves at home. Early morning or just before dusk tends to be best. Hold off on the sprays around release time – they won’t appreciate a chemical welcome.
